It downloads but says it cannot be used in my country (US). Please advise.

That’s strange. If it’s the official Chrome app, then it should be usable on your MacBook Air in the US.
If you weren’t using the App Store, use the App Store to download Chrome, and look for the Apple Silicon version. That might help.

Using a VPN?
If you are using a VPN connection, then disconnect from it, and try once more. You may be being seen in a different location. Keep Security Software off of your Mac, as it just gets in the way, and this is a pure example of how and why.

Google Chrome can be downloaded directly from Google's website: https://www.google.com/chrome/index.html
Also, most iPhone/iPad apps cannot be downloaded on your M1 Mac (via the App Store). This isn't because of a compatibility issue, but most developers choose not to allow their iPhone/iPad apps to be downloaded on Macs, due to a poor usability experience.
