I have an old MacBook Pro (High Sierra 10.13.6. and cannot send message to anyone with an iPhone or other mac device. How can I change that to be able to send from this MacBook pro?

Is there something I can change to allow the messages to go out as sms instead of iMessage or whatever?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.13

log in with a valid Apple-ID then set up messages with that same Apple-ID. That gets you access to Apple Messages.

To send to NON-iPhone Users, your iPhone must be logged in with the same Apple-ID, powered on, and have service, because those messages will literally be sent Through your iPhone.
