How do I create a routine on my HomePod mini?

So, I’ve had google home mini for years and decided to make the leap to the HomePod mini, and I’m honestly disappointed in how difficult it is to set up a morning routine. For the last five years I would wake up and say, Hey Google, good morning.” Google would give the date, weather forecast and proceed to play several news stories that kept me up with current events. And, all of this was built into the iOS compatible Google Home app. Set up took a matter of minutes.

This is not the case, as far as I can tell, in The iOS Home app. I found a YouTube video that walked through the steps in Shortcuts. It was complicated and did not work. I need some help setting this up. I refuse to believe that Google packed more functionality in a $25 device vs. Apple’s $100 device.

Also, could I would appreciate being pointed in the direction of affordable smart bulbs compatible with Home. The ones I’ve found are almost 3x’s more than Google Home compatible bulbs.

if you want news & weather, just say “ hey Siri what’s my update?”

Or:

Get news

Note: Apple News is not available in all languages and regions.

Try any of the following examples:

  • Hear the latest headlines: Say “Hey Siri, what’s the news today?” to hear what’s going on in the world. Siri suggests other news sources, and you can switch to one at any time. Say something like “Hey Siri, play CNN.”
  • Get specific news: Say, for example, “Hey Siri, give me the latest sports news.”
