Screen flashing

I have a macbook pro with retina screen, purchased in early 2017 (with, I believe, an intel chip). My screen flashes with horizontal lines, especially everytime I move the mouse or type. I've tried re-starting, tried holding the shift - control and option keys with the power button to restart the VRAM. I've updated the software to the newest version of MacOs Monterey, and since doing this the problem has become worse. If this helps, the graphics/displays are listed as Intel Iris graphics 540 with built in retina LCD... any suggestions on how to make the flashing stop?

Thank you!

Disconnect all external devices in case one of them is interfering.

Most likely the laptop has a hardware failure. Have Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider examine the laptop to provide you with a repair estimate. There is a chance you have some third party software installed that is causing a problem as well which you can test by performing a clean install of macOS (either to the internal or to an external drive if you don't want to disrupt your internal drive). If a clean install has the same issue, then you have a hardware issue, otherwise you likely have a software issue with a third party app. FYI, a clean install is when you erase the whole physical drive before installing macOS, then testing the system before migrating/restoring from a backup and before installing any third party software.
