why is monterey causing memory issues with applications. All the Microsoft office and Chrome processes are over 8GB in memory use. Never happened before migrating to Monterey.

One thing that has been shown to cause this is the new cursor color setting.
If you have changed the cursor color, click the Reset button:
Chrome is a memory hog. On my 32GB Mac Pro, the chrome browser is using >20GB.

As mentioned Google Chrome with the Helper Application from Google is a real hog for CPU usage and Memory
I'm running Monterey 12.0.1 on a 2020 MacBook Pro.
Word and Chrome are both using roughly 200 MB each.
