Can’t hear callers unless I put on speaker. Plz help

I am having this same problem and I cleaned the speaker. I went into software settings and added the hearing mode and turned off the sound recognition mode. I also turned the phone off and turned it back on. When a caller calls, I can only hear them on the speakerphone, not thru the ear speaker. How can we fix this? It just started a few weeks ago, I think during the 14.8 IOS update.
