Safari not opening links

Strange behaviour with Safari on two Macs running Monterey. With some websites, when I click on the link, instead of going to the link, it opens a new start page. This is not just a rare occurrence, but happening with Google Docs and a number of other sites, like this one. When I click on one of the two links, it does not go to the link. If I go to the same website on Firefox or Chrome, they work as they should. Anyone know what's going on?
