So yes, any OS can download the latest version of FCP free trial ( .dmg ) but it will not install unless that OS is compatible with that latest version . No harm done because no payment made.

However, if you try to buy the latest version of FCP from the App Store on a system with an OS that is not compatible with that latest version of FCP then you will not be able to download FCP. Apple would not want you to pay for FCP that you cannot use on that OS.

To buy FCP, currently,( Nov 13 2021) this has to be done on a Mac running macOS 11.5.1 or later.

Do you know anybody running OS 11.5.1, or later , that will let you purchase FCP on their Mac with your Apple ID ? Note, your Apple ID. Obviously you will be paying for it rather than them.

When you have done this you can sign into the App Store on your Mac( Catalina) with your Apple ID and download FCP from your PURCHASED page. You should be offered the version of FCP that is compatible with your OS, Catalina.

Have a look at Izzy video for free FCP tutorial.

The FCP page in the App Store will tell you if it will work on your computer.

You might want to tell us what your computer is, what your OS is, and what version of the trial you now have.

Buying the application will not remove the trial version. They are separate applications with different names. They may not be interchangeable however depending on the answers to the questions above.

Hi Tom thx for your pro answer its appreciated. I'm just unfortunately unemployed and was hoping to download the free version as I want to learn video editing to try and get work. I'm on a 2010 Mac Book Pro MacIS Catalina version 10.15.7 Processor 2,4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, Memory 8 GB and Graphics NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB, but FCP does show up on my App Store.

Thx Tom thing is I'm saving for a new Mac but if it would work on my current Mac I could rather buy the program after the trail expires and a camera than a new Mac now. I just don't want to loose the 90 day download if I download it and then it turns out it doesn't work. Appreciate your effort in helping me :)
