How to stream (avi and mkv) video files on iPhone 7

I have avi and mkv video file formats on a Windows computer and I'm unable to play (stream) them on my iPhone 7 in Safari. Safari will only play (stream) mp4 file format residing on my PC. Which app or plugin is capable of streaming these two file formats (avi and mkv) on my iPhone 7 either within Safari or within a standalone app ?
