Many of my apps no longer give me an option to select a misspelled word. All it allows me to do is look it up. This is happening in Messages especially but other Apple apps too. Running latest upgrade to Big Sur.
Is there a cure?

Doesn't "correct automatically" just correct the word to what Apple thinks is the word I was trying to spell? What I had before in Catalina was a misspelled word was highlighted and when you right clicked it, you got options as to what you wanted for the corrected spelling.

Check in System Preferences >> Keyboard >> Text tab and see if " Correct Spelling Automatically " it is enabled.
Also in the app check Edit > Spelling and Grammar > Correct Spelling Automatically
