Subtitles in through app not working

Why are the subtitles going in and out during the program Invasion?

This is just happening during the program Invasion. I don't want subtitles on permanently. When watching Invasion, there is a Japanese character(s) that when they spoke, subtitles appeared. The rest of the time when English speaking characters spoke, there were no subtitles. Several times though when the Japanese characters spoke, no subtitles appeared for minutes, only to return later in the episode.

Do you have a different Apple device that you can test that movie on to see if you get the same behavior?

Is this happening with all the episodes or just a particular episode?
