Car audio USB

Used to be able to play music in my car whilst charging but I am sure since the update it will only charge and not play music, anybody else had this problem and is it fixable or is it common for iPhone updates to do this? Thanks

iPhone XS Max, iOS 15

I've been having this same issue.

Prior to the latest iOS update(I am currently on iOS 15.1), I was able to play music from Spotify through my car's speakers by connecting my iPhone through a USB Lightning Cable.

Since that update, plugging my phone in only charges it and my car does not recognize that my phone is plugged in when I switch the media player over to the auxiliary device setting(what I always had to do to play music).

I also wondered if this was an issue with Spotify or my car, but considering how close the issue lined up with downloading the software update, I figured it had to be the version of iOS I am on. With my vehicle, connecting via the USB Lightning Cable is the only way I can play music at the moment.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Hello Kalamanchum,

We see you're having issues playing audio from your car's stereo, and we'd like to help.

Are you using CarPlay? If so, try out the steps from here: If you need help with CarPlay

If you're not using CarPlay, are you able to stream the music via Bluetooth to your car's stereo, if that's a supported option?

You can also try using a different Lightning cable, as well.

Lastly, be sure to also check that the audio output is being routed to the car. After selecting a song to play, tap on the AirPlay icon at the bottom, and see if that lists your car's stereo or not.

Cheers.

I rang Apple and they said its a known problem and it is the update causing the issue, he also said he isn't sure when a troubleshoot update will come so in the mean time I've had to revert back to aux with an adapter like a cave man as there is no other alternative.

I was like you, used to be able to charge and play music but now unrecognised but still charges.
