Are you referring to an SD card? That can be formatted (erased) in Disk Utility (located in Applications -> Utilities).

SIM cards are not the same as SD cards, and they cannot be used in Macs (as mentioned by BobTheFisherman and babowa).

The SD card slot in your Mac is not a slot for SIM cards.

Also, SIM cards are provided by your cell phone carrier, and should not be formatted.

The issue is trying to use a card which simply will not work in a laptop.

You may want to explain why you would try to use a sim card (which is used in phones and iPads) in a laptop?

And yes, sim cards are provided by your phone (cell) provider.

Or are you referring to a memory card (SD/SDXC)?

When are you going to understand:

A Mac does NOT have a sim card slot. There is NO Mac on this planet with a sim card slot.

It has an SD/SDXC slot - that is NOT a sim card.

And; yes, you can format those.

No, the issue, as you asked about, is with your sim card which has nothing to do with your Mac.

Take the sim card out of your mobile phone and look at it and you will immediately see your Mac does not have a sim card.
