Apple TV 4K Gen 2 Flicker

Hi Apple Community,

I recently purchased a Gen 2 ATV 4K. It's hooked up to a TCL C815 55" 4K TV, with a Sonos Beam + 2 x Sonos One SLs as rears.

Everything seems to work well, but on occasion the ATV will flicker on the load screen. It never happens while content is playing, but happens on both the ATV home screen, as well as the navigation menus for individual streaming apps.

I should also mention that this issue only seems to present itself when Dolby Vision is enabled. Downgrading to HDR10 seems to alleviate the issue.

The Beam is connected to HDMI 1 (ARC), and my ATV is connected to HDMI 3.

Fixes I've tried to date:

  • Swapping ATV to a different HDMI port
  • Updating ATV software
  • Purchasing a new HDMI 2.1 8K cable
  • Reducing "motion judder" setting within the TV settings

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Cheers,

James

Hello jdxw,

It's the case that when you turn on your Apple TV with Dolby Vision enabled, sometimes you see a flicker during startup.

As it sounds like you have followed the troubleshooting steps found in About 4K, HDR, and Dolby Vision on your Apple TV 4K, you can try to reach out and Contact Apple Support or use this Get Support link for Apple TV.

Hope this information helps.

Have a good day.
