Downloading a printer driver for Canon Pro-200 - CUPS Driver ver.22.20.00 for an iMac Big Sur Operating System ver 11.6.1

Has anyone had problems trying to install the driver for the Canon Pro 200 printer (ver.22.20.0.0.) for an iMac 21.5 inch 2017 (Retina4K). I have followed the Canon website instructions and each time the installation has failed at the validation stage. I have spoken to Apple who have suggested that I download ands reinstall the driver whilst in safe mood. but this has made no difference. They suggest that I update Big Sur to its latest version which I have down, again no joy. They further suggested I wait until Monterey is launched and reinstall Mac OS Big Sur. This I do not wish to do as Canon at the present time have no drivers available for this operating system.

I further spoke to Canon who say there are no known issues with the Canon Pro-200 printer driver, and can only suggest installing the printer driver on another computer!! They also suggested I create a new admin user account access to shared folders, then log in into the new admin user account, download and install the printer driver.

The last resort is that Apple have suggested I put my Mac in safe mode and reinstall MacOS. This is a big thing for me and I wish to avoid this at all costs.

ANY SUGGESTIONS OF HELP WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED as I have spent a lot of money on a brand new Canon Printer that cannot be used without this specific driver.

iMac, OS X 10.10

Thank you for the info. The AirPrint printing of the Pro-200 only gives you a very limited range of printing papers etc. The dedicated Canon CUPS driver gives a far larger choice of papers and coupled with ICC profiles from the relative paper manufacturers allows photographers to print endless colour profiles with a very accurate colour image. As a photographer this is a necessity and is why I purchased the printer initially as reviews mentioned its excellent printing qualities.

The Canon Pro-200 printer is supported natively by Apple's built-in AirPrint when using either an Ethernet or Wi-Fi network connection. No Canon software is necessary when using AirPrint.

If on the same network, and powered on, visit System Preferences > Printers & Scanners, and right-click on the printer entry. Choose Reset printing system… and a panel will appear showing the Pro-200 detected by Apple's Bonjour. For Use: choose AirPrint, not the Canon drivers, and then click Add. You. should then be able to print to the Pro-200.
