iphone storage keeps randomly going up and down

for context, i have a 64gb iphone xr. currently i have about 52gb of storage used. but sometimes my storage goes to 62gb causing forced restarts, or forcing my whatsapp to close until i make more space. I usually open “storage” when those problems has occur and when i open it, it says “62gb used” but after a couple of deletes maybe only apps thats only 200mb, my storage goes back to 52gb. how to fix plsss??? (FYI: when my storage drastically climbs to 62gb, usually the “system data” is the one who fills the rest of the storage”)

iPhone XR, iOS 15

Hello Omom_real,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, your storage fluctuates.

Given the information, it sounds like 'System Data' gets high, then decreases creating extra storage, when needed. This would be expected behavior according to: How to check the storage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch "Your device automatically removes cached files and temporary files when your device needs more space."

Based on your screenshot, we'd confirm you have optimized storage enabled for your photos, since they appear to be using the most storage on your iPhone. (The link above should walk you through this.)

Let us know if this information helps out, take care.
