Toshiba Dynadock U3.0 (PA3927E-1PRP) works perfectly except HDMI and DVI Output

Hello There

I have a MacBook Pro (A1989) running macOS Monterey 12.0.1, I have recently switched from Windows where I used to use a Toshiba Dynadock U3.0 port replicator with my current Win laptop (Toshiba Portege)

When I hook it up to the MacBook all ports work except the HDMI and DVI outputs, I believe this is a driver issue as I have also installed Win 10 via Bootcamp on the Mac, when I use the Dynadock in Win 10 mode, everything thing works perfectly, both displays work and can be extended without any replication of the displays.

Therefore I know the Hardware can support the dock, it is just a case of knowing if the macOS SW can also support the dock.

I have installed the DisplayLink driver but this had not made any difference, to be honest, I installed these drivers before I checked the dock but most forums seem to suggest they are needed as both my Dell monitors are DVI inputs.

Can anyone suggest something?

With Best Regards

Hello There

Fixed it, good old YouTube, I had to enable Screen Recording in the security and privacy section, then I had to run the DisplayLink driver from start up, following both these changes I have full extended displays.

Thank you Grant for getting me thinking,

Dear Grant

Thank you for your reply, as you can imagine I am very new to the macOS world so might not be surprised when I say 'How do I check if I have installed the correct version of the driver ?

I went to this link https://www.synaptics.com/products/displaylink-graphics/downloads/macos to get the driver.

After inspecting the MacBook system I find this so I think it is installed okay :-

I am not sure what you mean by needing HDMI adaptors, I want to use the HDMI and DVI outputs on the Port Replicator to connect to my displays, it is just that the MacBook does not seem to recognise them via the port replicator.

Any further thoughts ?

That does sound like you were/are missing the DisplayLink driver. ¿are you sure you installed the correct version for your macOS? ¿did you check the DisplayLink web site for the current MacOS version?

MacBook Pro 13-in 2018 does not have HDMI port, so to drive a display directly, you would need an adapter from USB-C.

Single-link DVI (under 1920 wide) can be created from HDMI with a cheap re-wire adapter.
