G-D'it... Photos sees the SD card ...and the photos stream out for import. Other, random times, Photo sees the SD card, but will not display the photos for import. One camera will work and another day, not. I have switched SD readers to no avail.
Perhaps there is another import program you can recommend? I find Photos quick and easy - 'till it is not! ('latest software upgrades on all my devices) Thanks.

You can just drag and drop from the SD card to a folder on the Mac.
You can try Image Capture directly.
I find this weirdness happens if I have not formatted the card in the camera lately.

Sometimes Image Capture "forgets" and you have to run it directly to kick it in the rear.
What happens if you use file>import (in the photos app) and then navigate to the SD Card folder?
Tony, It's clunky, but gets there. ' Kinda reminds me of OS 10.6.8 I still use on an old Mac to cut vinyl lettering ...about five steps (you have to set the real date on the camera to find it!) but it works.
The puzzle: simply plugging in the SD card always worked pretty seamlessly a few months/year ago...

Thanks, Keith... That works but is kinda kludgy to add the extra steps. (I didn't understand Image Capture...)
I used Photoshop years ago, then Affinity Photo ...but then said 'screw it'; I don't need some notion of perfection - just clean photos!
I'll do reformatting to see if that clears it up... Of the three digital cams I use, they just recently have been doing this on/off when I attempt to use Photos?
