Software Update on iPhone missing link to upgrade to iOS14.8

Why is the option to update a downlevel of iOS to iOS14.8 no longer available ? We approximately 20 users (of ~850) still running iOS13 and we've asked them to do the upgrade on their phones to iOS14.8 as one of their business critical apps is not yet supported on iOS15. When they go to the Software Update panel there is no mention of iOS14.

Hello again. Apple is still providing security updates for iOS 14, but only for devices that are still on iOS 14 following the release of iOS 15. iOS 14 stopped being signed shortly after iOS 15 was released, meaning it is not possible to upgrade to it from older versions of iOS, such as iOS 13.

Your best option here is to wait for the app in question to be updated to support iOS 15, and then update to the latest release of iOS 15 once this is the case.

Hello. iOS 14 is no longer signed by Apple and thus is not available for your users to upgrade to. The only version of iOS that is currently signed is iOS 15. This means that this is the only version of iOS your users will be able to upgrade to when it is time to upgrade.

With this in mind, your best bet is to wait for the application in question to be supported on iOS 15 and then upgrade to this version.

Hello latranner,

Thanks for your reply. Can you tell me if this is a change in policy ? I understood that iOS14 was still being supported and up until recently there was a choice on the Software Update pane as to which iOS to update to. If it's not possible to update to it or from earlier version of iOS 14 to the latest iOS 14.8 I would argue that is not support.

Do you know when iOS 14 stopped being signed by Apple ?

Regards,

Scott
