A couple of days ago I began to notice that every time I clicked on a link from an email message in Outlook, Safari would open an entirely new window instead of a new tab within what I already have open. It's never done this before, and I cannot figure out what, if any, setting was changed (or needs to be changed). I've looked in Safari's settings, System Settings, and in Outlook's settings as well.

I tried that, and it's already set that way. And it's any link from any other app that opens it in a new window, not just Outlook.

From your post, it sounds like Safari opens email links in a new window instead of a new tab. Open Safari, click Safari Menu button (upper left hand corner) > Preferences > Tabs. In the section titled "open pages in tabs instead of windows," be sure to choose "automatically."
