Next try restarting in the Safe Mode. Press the Shift key on restart. Be patient as this can take up to 10 minutes while the Mac's operating system is repairing itself and clearing its caches. Does it start up then? If so, restart normally. If the problem recurs, then I would disconnect all peripherals other than the keyboard and mouse and try restarting and adding back one peripheral at a time to see which one is problematic.
