Apple Card and London Transit Express Mode

I am planning a trip to London in the near future and see it all over the websites for paying for the "Tube" using their contactless payment system and Apple Pay set on Express Mode. The one thing that is not clear is which non-UK issued credit cards will work or not. Wondering what experience recent US travellers have had. I would want to use my Apple Card as default card since there are no foreign transaction fees.
