Random pasting of clipboard

On my Mac laptop, whenever I am typing in any application the computer decides to randomly paste whatever was last in the clipboard. I can't find any solution to this and have seen similar posts but not definitive answers.

To add more details, I am not accidentally clicking Apple+V. I've even seen it paste without my hands touching the keyboard.

This is very frustrating as it is a new laptop with latest OS.

Any thoughts?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15

You do not say what exact Mac this is beyond MBP 13" ...?

Old issue, new issue, what changed.

You would expect a reboot to resolve a glitch—

You can always try reinstalling the macOS on top of your existing macOS to sort anomalies.

How to reinstall macOS from macOS Recovery - https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204904

To trouble shoot further you can:

—Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc.

Login and test. Reboot as normal and test. Caches get rebuilt automatically.

In Safe mode third party system modifications and system accelerations are disabled, it removes malware, etc hampering smooth operation, however a reboot will put it back to normal mode.

This test will tell you if third party interference; extensions etc are not loaded in safe boot mode.

—Test issue in another user (or guest user) account https://support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/set-up-other-users-on-your-mac-mtusr001/mac

This will tell you if it a universal issue or isolated to your user/admin account.

Uninstall all third party apps that are Cleaners/Optimizers/VPN/Anti-Virus

all known to cause issues on the macOS

You have a limited 14-days to return any new Mac for a full refund or exchange for one that works correctly out of the box. Call Customer Support (800) MY–APPLE (800–692–7753)

Understand that there is a Find item clipboard category that is entirely separate from the general clipboard.

Let's say that I am using Apple's Preview on an opened PDF and I attempt to find the string "metamorphosis." I then open an existing Pages document and open the Find/Replace panel. The Find field is automatically set to "metamorphosis" without my typing it. That can be annoying…

Is this what you are referring too? In all the years I have been using macOS, I have never once had general clipboard content automatically inserted in any application without my deliberately requesting it.

[Note: the Find clipboard issue apparently has been resolved in macOS 11.6.1 and/or Pages v11.2. It was present in testing that I did in earlier versions of both. /viking]

I have a similar problem. Macbook Pro 13 inch, 2020. Been lots of problems with performance of this Macbook, it has run significantly worse than my 2014 Macbook Air! This has been happening to me quite a lot too. I think it is an issue with the hardware, and will be taking into the Genius Bar (again) to get it looked at (again) with zero hope of resolution.

From what I can deduce, this particular Macbook series was quite flawed.

Hi Viking,

No I am afraid not. It is when I am typing (on the Macbook Pro, not the Magic Keyboard though) and I will suddenly find what is on my standard clipboard has been pasted into the text I have written. This occurs on Word, Outlook, Notes, Mail... It is not specific and I think therefore something fundamentally wrong with the model, although getting Apple to admit there is a possible problem with their machines is like getting blood from a stone.

For peace of mind and computer

There are no known Windows-like Viruses in the wild that self replicate and affect macOS, because of the underling UNIX  Foundation and Permission Limitation.

The The Built in Security  is all that is required to protect the computer.

Should “ Certain & Specific Software “ referenced from above be installed - it will negatively impact macOS. It is suggested, to download directly from a respected ASC Contributor, the application Malwarebytes for Mac

It is free or paid for added features.

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with nor receive compensation from the Developer.

Run the Application and it should remove the malware / adware. Once done, restart computer and test.
