I have a 2009 iMac running High Sierra. In the process of trying to copy the photo library to an ehd, I think I ended up putting the photos library in the iCloud Drive. When I look at the iCloud Drive, I don't see all of the photos that I can see on my iMac in the photos program. My end goal is to copy the photo library and paste it to my external hard drive. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated!

"My end goal is to copy the photo library and paste it to my external hard drive. " - drag the Photos library (by default in the Pictures folder on your Mac) to your storage device to create a copy.

Pay particular attention to making sure the format of the external drive is correct first (as described in the linked document)
