This does not answer my question - is Findmy disabled on my phone or not ??? E mail says it is, phone says it isn't !!
I wasn’t answering your post. I was answering yakhfa, who threadjacked you.
If your phone says it is on, then it is on. The message was probably a scam hoping you would click a link and provide information so someone could hack your phone.
Another way to check: Go to https://icloud.com/find and see if your phone is listed. If it is, then Find My is on.

Recently, my iphone XS MAX was snatched and that person immediately powered it off and it could not be detected/located. My suggestion is power-off button should function only after logging into the phone.
This has been discussed for 10 years now. And the answer is that it would be a bad idea, both because it would inconvenience everyone whose phone had not been stolen, and it wouldn’t solve any problems, because there are many ways to disable Find My, such as removing the SIM, wrapping the phone in aluminum foil or just dropping it in a shoplifter’s shielded bag or a Faraday pouch.

Extremely sorry for posting my question here. It is by mistake for which i apologize.
