Apple Watch apps frequently quit

I have a less-than a year old apple 6 watch. Too frequently apps just quit on my. I’ll set ‘outdoor walk’ and minutes later I’ll look down and it’ll be paused when I didn’t hit anything. Or I’ll set it for ‘Pilates’ or ‘outdoor bike ride’ and when I’m done it never recorded the workout.

Similarly I’ll use the timer app while doing laundry or cooking, and when I look down at my watch minutes later, the timer isn’t engaged anymore.

I don’t understand why the apps just stop and close without any interaction with them.

And it only happens with Apple apps, the workout app and the Timer app (really just the only apps I use).

I wear my watch band very tight, so the connection to my wrist isn’t the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas?

As far as pausing workouts, when your Apple Watch senses that you're done working out, it taps you on the wrist and asks (by giving you the option to pause), see the 'Get reminders to end your workout' section in:

Use the Workout app on your Apple Watch - Apple Support

To turn this setting on or off, open the Settings app on your Apple Watch, tap Workout, then go to End Workout Reminder.

Make sure you are using the timer correctly.

Does the timer work OK when you use the iPhone only?

Do you have a GPS-only version of the watch? If so, is the iPhone with you when these things happen?

The first (and simplest) thing to try if something isn’t working right is to restart your Apple Watch and its paired iPhone. If necessary (device not responding), try a forced restart. Both methods can be found here:

If that doesn't help, the next steps would be to unpair and pair your watch again and restore from the backup just created. This should result in no loss of data. It deletes all temp and corrupted files and re-indexes the file system.
