Hi epstein1,

You should do the following before bringing your MacBook Air in for service:

  1. Back up your Mac with Time Machine. This puts all of your data on an external drive so that you can restore it back onto your Mac, or onto another Mac. If you want, you can also encrypt the backups, but if you do, the backups will be inaccessible if you forget the backup password.
  2. Enable FileVault in System Preferences -> Security and Privacy -> FileVault. This encrypts your startup disk so that no one can access your photos or other data until they enter your password first. You may need to leave your MacBook Air connected to power until encryption completes.
  3. Disable Find My Mac in System Preferences -> Apple ID -> iCloud. The repair technicians may not be able to complete the requested repairs if Find My Mac is enabled.
  4. If you already disclosed your login password to the service technicians, change your password in System Preferences -> Users and Groups.
  5. Shut down your Mac. Click the Apple logo in the top left corner, then click Shut Down.
