Cables cables cables

Heyo! Trying to transfer files from mid 2012 MBP to external drive and cannot find a cable (apple certified or otherwise) that is compatible! Waaaat!?!? Please help nerds! I’m not a computer whiz I just need the goods before my Mac takes a dump and I lose years of files, photos etc etc etc thanks in advance!

MBP 2012… that’s a USB-A port … so you need a cable from USB-A to whatever the other end is…(ie: USB-B or Micro B)
