suggestd using 110 - 130% cpu

Hi!

for the past 1.5 / 2 weeks suggestd is acting up. It has a 110 - 130% CPU usage and is spamming the log about every 0.02 sec with the following message:

suggestd LaunchServices: disconnect event invalidation received for service com.apple.lsd.open

I'm on:

Model Identifier: MacBookAir10,1

System Firmware Version: 7429.41.5

System Version: macOS 12.0.1 (21A559)

Any ideas?

greatly appreciated

Regards

Max

I'm most defiantly not 🙈 Or is there a plan to re-write macOS in python? ;)

But in fact, I believe that console put me on a good path. IMHO the problem is caused by AddressBookSourceSync. I wanted to clean that out anyways, as contacts a keep popping up multiple times.

I'll do that over the weekend and will report if it helped. For now, killing AddressBookSourceSync has a positive effect on several processes.

I saw that tipp before, but on twitter I saw that it did not help much on macOS 12. But of course you are right, one should try everything. Therefore I did. And it helped to bring it down to 90 - 115%.

But I saw something else in the logs. Before I limited the scope to warnings and errors. Without the filter I saw that suggestd logged the contacts that are allowed to send me text massages, even when my screentime is "over".

  1. The numbers got logged in clear. Which I would consider bad practice.
  2. There where a lot of those massages.

Thus I deactivated screen time. And well... it helped to drive it down to 15 - 20%, which I consider still too high. But AddressBookSourceSync is up to 50 - 70 % 🙈

adding up all internal apple process I'm still over 100 %.

But I guess that the problem will be mixture of Addressbooksync, which gave me a major headache anyways, and Screen Time. Looking into the statistics I noticed that Facebook had a Screen Time of 100% every day. But the thing is... I'm not a frequent user of Facebook. I don't have the app installed on my iPhone and I only use the web version in private mode. Thus I should not be logged in.

A piece of advice - spending time in Console will drive you and me crazy. Almost, zero return on the energy to understand the language in there.

That is, unless one is an Apple Software Engineer as most if not all that is in the Console is basically Apple Developers speak to each other.

The Console used to be a good trouble shooting place back in the day of Leopard OS X 10.15 and Snow Leopard OS X 10.6. Since than moving to present versions of macOS - that functionality is no more.
