Pages is not a Word clone, and when you open a Word document, it is translated into a separate Pages (.pages) document. The original Word document is unchanged.
Unlike Word and LibreOffice Writer, Pages has no form builder or support for Word forms, and that information will be omitted during the translation process. Fonts that are referenced in Word must be physically installed on the Mac, or are subject to font substitution that can also alter the appearance after translation.
If you want to retain all original formatting found in the native Word document, then you should be using a compatible version of Word for your macOS version, or a Word clone (e.g. LibreOffice) that supports forms. Just realize that the LibreOffice strength is its MS Office document compatibility, though it is not 100%, and the different interface will have a noted learning curve, even with the available documentation.

If you don't want to purchase or subscribe to Microsoft Office you may want to try the free and very good LibreOffice instead of Pages: https://www.libreoffice.org/
