Unless you’ve disconnected and turned off* each device EXCEPT your target, in the time it took for you to disconnect each one your AirPods are already connected with the last device paired.

Consider Airpods as loyal to their latest device. Think of the AirPods’ case as a launching pad…find a button inside, press it, keep pressing it until you hear something akin to blahblah disconnected, read to pair. Make sure your AirPods & case are right by your target device. Keep your target device’s Bluetooth open. The name of your AirPods ought to show up, choose it & you’l see connected.

Make sure Bluetooth is on. Bluetooth works if WiFi is off. However, make sure airplane mode is OFF. If flicked ON , you’ll be pressing the case button a very long time or not so long depending upon your frustration threshold. It won’t pair.

Of course, sometimes AirPods are defective. Most of the time users like me either omitted or added something glitchy.

Repeat the same addition or omission…you’ll get the same result. So, use a search engine with key words from your problem description. Somewhere on YouTube someone has a step by step demonstration video. If you need to take a break…take one. Watch again when you’re ready.

Resilience gets the pods paired.

*You can also just move every other device AWAY from the your pods & case instead of turning them off. Proximity matters!

If they still won’t pair (show up on Bluetooth and connect after you chose them) take your AirPods with proof of purchase to the Apple Store.

Know why their called geniuses? They made the same mistake(s) you might have made. Knowing now doesn’t make them geniuses…not giving up did.

Of course, sometimes there is a defect. The difference is if the geniuses can’t pair them, they can replace them assuming they’re new or you bought AppleCare.

If you used a credit card, check your buyer protection benefits. Mine covers damage, theft, loss, refund refusal up to 90 days after purchase. Amounts covered differ by type of card but every buyer protection plan of any reputable company will cover the cost of AirPods. If you bought AirPods and a device together with AppleCare, it’s likely you AirPods are covered as well.

Apple wants their customers to be happy. Great customer service isn’t genius. It’s a smart business practices. That’s why you’ll find a smart manager if genius disappoints. Be pleasant. And, remember the further up the chain of command, the smarter the customer service gets.

If you’ve read this far, there’s one additional hint. It helps if you give each of your devices a distinctive name. You can change the name of your AirPods pods too or any other Bluetooth device.

This is a wordy reply. Why? I’ve made a lot of mistakes. I’m hoping you won’t.
