I have a library of backed-up documents from my last employer (windows environment) that I saved to my Mac since it was content I created.
On my Mac, these have a file extension of filename.pptx.PFILE or filename.docx.PFILE
I have MS Word, PPT and Excel installed on my Mac - any idea how I can open these documents?

Take a copy of one of these .pfiles and rename it to just filename.docx. Can you open it in Word?
FWIW, it's a protected file. Apparently by the company you worked for.
Good thought! When I did this, I get this message: PowerPoint found a problem with content in 100 Day Project_LM.pptx. PowerPoint can attempt to repair the presentation.
If you trust the source of this presentation, click Repair.
Then it says its unreadable.
