I can't get my AirPods to reset

I can't get my my AirPods Pro to reset with a blinking orange light on the outside of the charging case.

iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS 15

What's happening is that while I was charging the case, something went awry, because when I went to check the charge status, the AirPods stopped working. The indicator light on the outside of the case started blinking orange every time I opened the case. I unpaired the AirPods from my IPhone, which is the only device I'm using them with. The setup button on the back of the case doesn't seem to be doing anything.
