My Apple USB C SD card reader is recognized by my M1 Macbook Air, but it does not show up in finder and does not read/show SD cards. It shows up in system report, but the system report does not show the SD card. When using the Kingston SD card reader it all works. UHS-II card. The USB C reader worked a couple of times and that was it. Macbook running Big Sur.

Have you been able to test this with another card to see if the same thing happens?
You could also create a test user, to see if the issue happens there, to further isolate the issue: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac - Apple Support

Thank you. Did an update yesterday , no change. The reader is recognized by Mac OS, but Mac OS does not see the card in the reader, it did the first few times. Same card works in camera and in the Kingston reader on the Mac.
Two different cards each works in the r Kingston reader but not the apple reader. The apple reader was flakey from day one sometimes reading and sometimes not, then after a couple weeks use it stopped reading the cards.
