MacBook Pro M1 Touch ID "Authentication Canceled"

Just received my new MacBook m1 pro/max. Trying to set everything up and when I go to input my fingerprint a window pops up that says "authentication canceled". Starting to get real annoying having to put my password into everything (especially since I'm in the setup phase). Ideas?
