trying to use iPad Pro 2020 running iPad OS 14.8.1 as external display on MacPro circa 2016 running monterey 12.0.1 ... ... the iPad does not appear in the "display" option under system preferences on the Mac Pron... for testing purposes only i successfully connected the iPad to an M1 imac running monterey ... all devices connected to same LAN/wifi and all devices logged in with same apple ID

I followed all those instructions before I posted the question. the iPad does not appear as an available display in system preferences ... other devises do appear like apple TV and Roku streaming device ... I was able to use the iPad as a display on an M1 iMac 2021
the iPad is connected to the mac pro with a USB C cable thru a USB [regular] port on the mac pro ... the iPad is also trusted by the mac and will sync photos and other media on the mac pro
