Recovery mode no users shown

Hi! 2018 MacBook Pro. When I do command+r, I go to recovery mode. Before I can do anything there, it asks me to select and admin that I know the password for, but no matter how long I wait, it doesn’t show any users. I’ve checked Users & Groups in system Prefs several times to make sure I am an admin user and have checked the box that says “Allow user to administer this computer “. Can anyone help?

I encountered a similar issue with one of our organization's T2 laptops. While I was given a list of users I could not authenticate any of them even though each admin user worked fine while booted normally into macOS. I deleted one of the admin users and was finally able to authenticate Recovery Mode by using the now deleted admin user. With our trust in the contents of the T2 security chip eroded, we felt we had no option but to "Restore" the T2 firmware which erased everything on the laptop & reset the T2 security chip and forced a clean reinstall of MacOS over Internet Recovery Mode. This destroyed all data on the laptop which we had to restore from a backup.

Perhaps if you can boot the Mac normally (or in Safe Mode) you can attempt to reinstall macOS over top of itself to see if perhaps the OS install will update the list of admin users associated with the T2 security chip.

As @Grant mentions we sometimes need more details because the other problems are most likely related to the partial issue you have posted. Without the full story & background we are working half blind which is a complete waste of our time since we are just other regular users such as yourself volunteering our free time to assist people here. While the other details may seem irrelevant to you, they may have significant meaning to other contributors.

Good luck.

Thanks, for your concern, Grant, but all I’m looking for help with is getting to the Disc Utility tool that is available in a Recovery Mode. I have confirmed that I am admin with permission to administrate in System Utilities>Users & Groups, but as per the image from my initial post, no admins are available in the first Recovery Mode screen. Thanks again for your concern.

It is not out of concern that I posted my question to you.

I was trying not to be so blunt, but you leave me no choice. You have given readers NOTHING, not even a hint of why you might be facing this issue, and without more information, no one here can help you in any way.

If you could be SUBSTANTIALLY more forthcoming about the situation that lead you to fire up recovery, then maybe readers could make some suggestions.

Thanks very much for your detailed response. The fact is that I’m looking to see if anyone has had the same experience of not seeing any admin choices on the first Recovery Mode screen, even when System Preferences says I’m set up as an admin who has permission to administer the machine, and to see if they have a way to help with that.

It seems I misunderstood the way this forum works, and I’m sorry that I’ve gone about this in a way that is unacceptable in this forum. Thanks again for replying, and I’ll look for another venue.
