Where is the volume control on the remote on IPhone

If it is connected then you use the same Volume buttons on your iPhone (left side)
Does not work. In the original app the volume buttons were on the screen. But the new app has no volume buttons. I should not have upgraded
I have downloaded the apple TV remote control to my iphone. Where are the volume controls?
