Mail AOL account security

AOL wants me to delete my email account in Mail and reinstall for security, doesn't that purge all my map email data from the computer?

Of it's a POP account yes, if an IMAP account things should come back on the new account.


For safety create On My Mac mailboxes for like Inbox & Sent at lest, copy eMails to the On My Mac mailboxes before attempting.

Thanks I missed typed IMAP but I suspected that precaution would require some how copying the emails while AOL fails to explain the downside of deleting the account and reinstalling the account.

AOL is not forthcoming about why this exercise is needed other than AOL says security no explanation. Where have we heard that before.
