How to remove iCloud tabs from iPhone suggested in Safari on Mac?

Hello, community!

The Safari browser on my Mac is showing me suggestions "from iPhone" below the favourites and the frequent visits. These are tabs with pages I must have opened on my iOS Safari a while ago. They are apparently synced with my Mac via iCloud. However, I have closed all these tabs on my iPhone's browser long ago, and I have deleted my browsing history both on my iPhone and on my Mac repeatedly. There is no Apple device where these tabs are opened.

I realise I can prevent these suggestions from showing if I stop syncing my iCloud tabs via the settings of my browser, but I do not want to stop my Safari iCloud synchronisation. Instead, I would like to delete these tabs from my history (where they are obviously still present), and to make them stop showing as suggestions on my Mac. While I can make each suggested tab disappear from the Safari homepage on my Mac by right click and then "close tab", such tabs re-appear once I close and re-open the browser again.

Please let me know how to fix this bug, which constitutes both an inconvenience by flooding my homepage with old useless suggestions, and a privacy breach by not allowing me to clear parts of my browsing history.

Many thanks and kind regards,

Ivan

This may not be the solution you are seeking, but I will toss it out there anyway.

In the lower right corner of the screen, there is a 3 line / 3 dot icon. Click on it and one of the options available is to turn off the "iCloud Tabs" such that no longer appear on the page at all. This doesn't require that you stop syncing. Just stops showing them.

No worries. Those tick boxes control what you want to appear on the Start Page screen. The control of sync is in you iCloud settings.

Regarding your "old irrelevant links" I did some testing with my iPhone and iPad to see what appears. I can confirm that what I am seeing is likewise not up to date. For both devices, the tabs showing up are of closed websites. More problematic is that a currently open tab on the devices does not show up at all. Presumably, there is some level of delay in these updating.

You said "flooding my homepage with old useless suggestions" which is interesting. For both my iPhone, and iPad, I see only one suggested tab. Purely a guess on my part, but since we are concluding that the suggested tabs are NOT representative of what is currently open on the devices, there must be some snapshot in time. Presumably, your snapshot was at a time when you had many tabs open all at the same time? Does that seem to be the case?

Again, purely conjecture on my part, but it would seem that this tab snapshot is likely out on iCloud and not a function of browser history in any of the actual devices. Thus why clearing browser history is not clearing out the suggested tabs.

Thank you for confirming that unselecting iCloud Tabs from the Mac's browser does not unsync iCloud! I was not sure about this and I will probably use it as a temporary solution. Nevertheless, this is not what I was looking for. Ideally, I would be able to use the iCloud Tabs function without seeing old irrelevant links. In fact, I do not think I see any legit current tabs among these recommendations now. Furthermore, and more importantly, I would like to delete my old history so it cannot appear anywhere.
