remember window size and position with an external display

how could i set window sizes and positions in Big Sur so they are remembered when an external display is used ?

i have the issue where switching an external monitor off and back on will resnap the windows for apps to some default size and position that is different from where i want them to be.

should be fairly simple to do but if there's some terminal work or scripting that will help me accomplish this i am willing to try it.

i don't believe i should have to pay for an app for this feature, and regardless i did try Display Maid but the app doesn't always work right and the developer doesn't seem to care about my problem so I would go back to apple to claim the app doesn't work for a refund.
