Apple Music in Monterey has no sound, Vox and others do

Upgraded to Monterey on Intel MBAir, late 2020. Apple Music plays song but no sound on ALAC files (.m4a) and .wav files. Music app shows the progress bar on song being played. I can pause and play, but no sound. The Music app is not even an option for .aac files. This applies to CD’s I ripped and converted from .wav to ALAC and .aac and also with music purchased from iTunes. Confirmed speakers are on, not muted.

But Vox plays correctly as does QuickTime.

All worked in Big Sur.

Not sure what to try.

Many thanks in advance.

Found out there IS another volume control for the app in top right. Not very obvious. I was using volume on MBAir.

it is working now.
