Yes as mentioned Rosetta 2 will be invoked when required.
Though , Universal Application will not require Rosetta 2 and in the longer time-frame be more and more useful.
Again, in the log term - there will come a time when X86 Applications will have to updated to Universal as more and more M Based Apple Computer come on-line.
IMHO - the Intel based Applications may eventually be cut off if Apple decides to Stop offering an Emulator as newer versions of macOS are developed.
It was much like the time Apple used the Motorola PPC CPU and switched to Intel. At some point Applications written for the PPC had to switch to Intel Based as newer versions of macOS no longer support an Emulator to interface with old Applications.

Rosetta 2 will automatically download and install to run your Intel apps on your new M1 Mac just fine.
