Connecting Apple TV optical sound

Hi! I'm having trouble getting audio from my Apple TV 3-rd gen to my audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 18i20). I'm not sure on what side the problem exists but I get no signal. I've connected the devices via a normal Tosslink cable. I've tried the interface in both external and internal Clock source. How can I make sure the Apple TV is outputting sound on the optical port? Is it always on?

Temporary Audio Output to older Apple TV 2nd Generation: no sound since update to tvos17 Use case: I have a stereo digital amplifier (Meridian 561). Since the demise of the optical port on Apple TV I have been using my old Apple TV 2nd Generation as the sound output. Audio output stopped after the update to tvOS17. Output to other targets such as macbook and airpods max work correctly. I have restarted the appleTV, made sure the software is at the latest version (tvOS 17.0 (21J354). Apple TV 4k audio Apple TV 4k won't play audio from the Apple TV app. All the other apps play audio as normal. It's connected byHDMI. Cab't use optical. Is there a setting I'm missing? Any help would be appreciated.
