running an old game on macbook pro (big sur)

apologies for cross-post. I originally asked the question in the general software department.

wondering what I need to do in order to run an old game (2001-ish).

when I run the disc, finder doesn't even see it; does not appear on desktop.

any assistance would be appreciated.

Help with downloading OS Big Sur I have an Early 2015 Macbook Air 11 inch, and am trying to download and upgrade to Big Sur OS from a pretty old one - El Capitan. However, after downloading for about an hour, it seems to stop almost at the end, and the message reads "Calculating" on the App Store. Nothing happens after this, and it does not finish downloading. I tried to download it 3 times, and am on the 4th try. Any idea about the problem and suggestions about how to address?

Installing early 2000's game on High Sierra Hi. I've recently found an old game (I think 2002-04?) that I'd like to install on our new iMac, running High Sierra. From what I've read so far, I understand that I need Classic Environment to install a game this old and I've seen suggestions to use OS 9. A few questions... Does the Mac stay in OS 9 or is it something you can switch between easily? Will using OS 9 in one user, change all users on this iMac to OS 9? Could switching to OS 9 cause any problems for the Mac? AND, this particular disk was used on a PC back in the day, but says it can be used on Mac as well. If it was already used on a PC is it a lost cause? Can it still be used on Mac? Thanks in advanced!

You cannot play a PPC game from 2000 on any recent Intel Mac. AFAIK, OSX 10.6 was the last OS for an Intel Mac which provided access to running PPC apps using the original Rosetta software.

Also keep in mind that even many old macOS Intel games won't run on Big Sur because many of those old games will be 32 bit and Big Sur does not run 32 bit apps.
