Why did I receive an empty speech bubble?

At 3:02pm today, I received iMessage with a empty speech bubble. The weird part is it says the sender was me (which I didn’t send myself any messages). What does this mean?

If you send or receive a text that only has the “Space” in it, then you will see that empty speech bubble. Try sending someone just the “Space” (space bar) character and you will see what I mean.
