Connecting Homekit to Wemo Smart Plug did not work

Is there any way that this can be done?

When I tried to do this on the Wemo Smart Plug, the one programmed for Apple to work with Homekit, it absolutely would not work. I spent over an hour proving this. Then I rant Wemo support and it took over two hours.

They eventually agreed that it could not be linked from Homekit.

They also agreed it could not be linked using their Wemo app on the iPhone

Then they came up with a route that (a) had the iphone use the Wemo as a Wi-Fi node, then (b) set it up to talk to the real Wi-Fi. (It would take many lines to record what I was asked to do.) This put an icon on the system that the Home app could use. Then I was able to control the item through the home app.

This procedure was ridiculously long and complicated. I There must be something better. Has anyone any ideas?

I see that in April this year someone had a similar problem of making the connection. It has not gone away then.

I have four Wemo plugs three of which have the HomeKit label printed on the back - one without. Sometimes they are finicky to set-up and use Usually a reset will get them to work. Once set-up I haven't had any fail thereafter. (Use them to control indoor and outdoor Christmas lighting.). Just to be clear, I use the HomeKit app to add the devices.

FWIW, I also have several Meross Smart Plugs that connected to HomeKit without any issues.

Thanks for reporting that you have had a good experience with setting up your Wemo Plugs.

I wonder if your network is straightforward? I will freely confess that mine has complexities and these may make the setting up difficult.

The core network is in the house. It is a load of Ethernet wires from a Netgear Switch that can run at 10 GHz. The WAN internet comes in very fast on FTTH and its router has a wired connection to this core network. The router is a Linksys that does the WiFi and has a mate in another room for more WiFi. In the house there is an iPad that is on continuously and runs (a) a monitor from a CCTV and (b) the Home hub.

There is an underground ethernet CAT6 cable connecting that Netgear switch to another Netgear 10GHz switch in the garden shed. This link runs at 10GHz and connects up two NAS boxes and one computer all on 10GHz. So I have installed a TP-Link "Powerline Wi-Fi Kit" (AV600) which provides Wi-Fi in the Shed for iPhone use and, now, Wemo and provides WiFi to an adjoining SWMBO's shed. I wonder if the connection from whatever the iPad does in the house to this Wemo in The Shed is the cause of the trouble.

I have the Wemo on test now and if it does what I want for a few days, which it appears to be doing now, I would like to get one or two more Wemo plugs as they are easy to install physically, just plug them in, and relatively cheap. (Lightwave stuff requires too much fiddly wiring for my ageing eyes.) But I am not looking forward to the prospect of setting up the next Wemo Plug.
