MacBook Pro sound over hdmi

Hi there. Have a MacBook Pro plugged into a projector and speakers via HDMI. The sound works, but will sometimes inexplicably stop playing. It doesn’t like switching between Spotify and PowerPoint video for example. It also occasionally just stops playing without any reason. To fix the issue we have to unplug the hdmi to thunderbolt connection and reinsert which brings it back. Any ideas how to prevent it cutting out?

I completely have this problem. In the middle of teaching my embedded PowerPoint videos stopped playing audio. Multiple times. One video played fine, and then later ones wouldn't.

How does the mac move from extend to mirrored, and why would it p

ossibly change? And how long does it take for this shift to occurr?

I see the issue now. It’s when the screen changes from extend to mirrored automatically. How do I prevent this?
