Renaming multiple files

I am looking for a method to rename files with the same extension, without losing the extension "hint". So for example when I select some 48 files all ending with "<name>.numbers", I like to delete the point before the extension.

It is possible to rename within Finder but you need to confirm the change for every file, which is really annoying after 10 -or so- files.

Thanks in advance for your help

Select all the files you wish to rename, then right-click (option-click) and select "Rename xx Items..." This will present a window that allows you to change the file names by adding or removing or editing the prefix or suffix or other info.
