Apple ID continually asked for in Music

Hi, I'm having an issue where every time I open the Music desktop app it asks me to enter my apple ID. When I do, it doesn't accept it and if I change it (yet again), the next time I go to my computer to login it will ask for it again and make me have to reset the password. On my mobile devices this doesn't happen. It's very strange. I use a password manager so this has been raising red flags from them with all my changes.


I know this makes no sense, but if there is an apple expert who has any suggestions, I'm all ears.


Don't know if this matters, but my iMac is oldish (2014) and I am using OS Catalina.

Hello Steven,


You're being asked for your apple id repeatedly? Are you by chance on an older version of macOS? If this is the case then you've most likely got two-factor enabled and will need to put your verification code right after your password the second time around.


example: Password123456

  • Password is the password portion
  • 123456 is the verification portion
  • no spaces!


If this doesn't help, what version of macOS are you on, and have you made sure that you've accepted terms and conditions? They are updated regularly.

example: Password123456

I actually answered most of these questions in my original post. I am using Catalina (10.15.7). But it's the iCloud that is the issue, so it's OS and iOS as well. I change my password and on some devices it accepts the new password (which it keeps asking for with iCloud, with Notes, with FaceTime and with Music) and on others it doesn't. So I then have to change the password again to get it to work on my phone or, in this case, the iTunes store won't accept the password that I've created. I know it's the correct email and I cut and paste password from my password manager (and I've done it manually), so the issue seems to be somewhere in the apple/iCloud webisphere.


Regarding two-factor verification, that always goes through fine. It's after that where it doesn't take the password.
